Arab Leaders Discuss with Arafat on New Palestinian Cabinet

King Abdullah of Jordan and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak spoke Monday with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat over phone to hear the latter's views on forming the new Palestinian cabinet.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a top aide to Arafat, said that Abdullah and Mubarak, who were holding a summit in Egypt, discussed with Arafat the situation in the region following the latest developments in Iraq.
The three leaders exchanged views over the international efforts to implement the "roadmap" peace plan and forming the new Palestinian cabinet, according to Rudeineh.
Arafat on Sunday rejected a list of members of the cabinet presented by incoming Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, better known as Abu Mazen, who appointed himself the powerful interior minister overseeing Palestinian security forces.
A meeting for Fatah movement Central Committee was canceled, which had been expected to discuss the list, which included some reformist legislators. No new meeting was scheduled.
The United States has made it clear that it is waiting for the forming of the new Palestinian cabinet to announce the "roadmap" peace plan, which was formulated by the United Nations, European Union, the United States and Russia.
Israel and the United States have been pressuring Arafat to appoint a prime minister to share his power within the Palestinian leadership so to end the 30-month Intifada, or uprising, and put the peace process back on track.
