Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said China will work with Albania for the overall development of bilateral relations, according to sources with the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Li held a phone conversation with Albanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilir Meta on Monday afternoon, and they had discussions on bilateral exchanges and cooperation this year in politics, economics, trade and culture.

Li said Sino-Albanian relations had developed soundly, and the development of bilateral friendship and cooperation was in the fundamental interests of the two countries and the common aspiration of the two peoples.

Meta said he would make joint efforts with the Chinese side to push forward friendly cooperation.

He spoke highly of China's role in international affairs, hoping to exchange views with the Chinese side on international issues like the Balkan situation.

Meta reiterated that the Albanian government will adhere to the"one-China" policy, which was appreciated by Li.

Li said the Chinese people would never forget countries like Albania which made contributions in the 1960s and 1970s to the restoration of China's legitimate seat in the United Nations.
