A new concept car designed by Chinese technicians was formally presented to the public Thursday in Shanghai.
The car, produced by the Pan-Asia Automotive Technological Centercompany Ltd., a Sino-US joint venture set up by General Motors and the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, has been named "Kunpeng", which refers to a large fish and a large bird appearing in ancient Chinese legends.
The concept car, 3.748 meters long, 1.59 meters wide and 1.77 meters high, is designed to appeal to ordinary consumers through its unique fish-like appearance and its relatively low price whileoffering full driving enjoyment.
Phil Murtaugh, chairman and CEO of the Shanghai GM Company Ltd.,said at today's ceremony that the birth of "Kunpeng" signifies that China's own auto design capability has risen to a new level.
