Despite the influence of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), south China's Guangdong province still boasts a brisk trade with Hong Kong.
The trade volume between the two neighboring regions totaled 11.86 billion US dollars in the first three months of the year, representing a year-on-year rise of 23.5 percent.
The province exported 10.73 billion US dollars worth of goods to Hong Kong and imported 1.13 billion US dollars.
The exports of mechanical and electric products, toys and textile products to Hong Kong continued to rise during the period.
Meanwhile, Guangdong also exported 120,000 tons of vegetables and 30,000 tons of aquatic products to Hong Kong during the first quarter, rising 20.1 percent and 32 percent, respectively.
Guangdong also exported 9.14 million US dollars worth of medicine to Hong Kong to help prevent and cure SARS.
Since China resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong in 1997, the trade volume between Guangdong and Hong Kong had exceeded 200 billion US dollars by the end of 2002.
