Wu Guanzheng, senior Party official in charge of discipline inspection, said Saturday that efforts should be made to address both symptoms and root causes ofcorruption and take comprehensive measures to rectify both.

Wu, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau ofthe Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and also the secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the CPC, said during an inspection in southwest China's Sichuan province that all are equal before the Party discipline and the law, stressing that all corruptionists must be thoroughly investigated and punished without leniency.

Government and party departments should correct any unhealthy working style, which is harmful to people's interests as well, said Wu.

Wu participated in discussions, conferences and seminars with local officials and people as he visited Chengdu, Deyang and Mianyang in the province from April 6 to 12.

Wu said all officials should implement the spirit of President Hu Jintao's speech and the second plenary meeting of the CCDI, which is the key for discipline inspection work this year.

All the chief officials should be strict with themselves and discipline inspection organizations should operate under supervision from the people, Wu added.
