China's Universities Hold Education Exhibition in Nepal

A two-day China Education Exhibition kicked off Saturday at the Birendra International Convention Center in Kathmandu in a bid to provide information forthe Nepalese students willing to study in China.

A two-day China Education Exhibition kicked off Saturday at the Birendra International Convention Center in Kathmandu in a bid to provide information forthe Nepalese students willing to study in China.

As many as 29 universities from various parts of China, including famous Beijing University, Qinghua University and TongjiUniversity, are participating in the exhibition, the first of its kind in the Himalayan kingdom.

The exhibition is organized jointly by the China Scholarship Council under the Chinese Education Ministry, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the Arniko Society of Nepal, a Sino-Nepalese friendship organization.

The major objective of the exhibition is to impart first-hand knowledge and information to prospective Nepalese students and their families about the Chinese education system, individual universities and courses they offer.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Nepali Assistant Minister for Education and Sport Rabindra Khanal said, "We deeply value the cordial friendship based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence between our two countries."

"The Chinese government has been providing opportunities and scholarship to the Nepalese students studying in China for many years, who made great contributions to their homeland after they returned back from China," he noted, adding that "these persons with advanced knowledge, technology and ability are the excellent in their work as a result of China's high-level education."

He hoped the Chinese side will provide more chances and scholarship for the Nepalese students who want to study in China in the future.

On the same occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Congyong said that China has given top priority to education, which is regarded as its basic state policy. Therefore, China has paid moreattention to the international cooperation and exchange in the field of education.

This exhibition will offer the Nepalese students an important opportunity to consult with China's universities and help them develop direct contacts with the universities. Interested Nepalesestudents can apply for admission for the summer 2003 session directly at the exhibition, he added.

More than 1,000 Nepalese students are studying in different subjects such as medicine, engineering, tourism and business administration in China at present. A total of 813 Nepalese students went to China for higher education last year. The Chinesegovernment has made available scholarship to 800 Nepalese studentsduring the last four decades.
