Three US aircraft carriers to leave Gulf, Mediterranean: US Navy
Three US aircraft carriers may leave Persian Gulf and Mediterranean within days because the air bombing on Iraq is winding down, Vice Admiral Timothy Keating, commander of all US naval forces in the Gulf said Saturday.

The USS Kitty Hawk, based in Yokosuka, Japan, and the USS Constellation, based in San Diego, may leave the Gulf for their home bases shortly in a gradual scaling down of forces, Keating said in a videotalecast news conference from his Gulf headquartersin Bahrain.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt and its battle group, deployed in the Mediterranean, may also leave the region soon, Keating told reporters.
Pentagon had deployed a total of five aircraft carrier battle groups for the war against Iraq, three in the Persian Gulf and twoin the Mediterranean.
Another US aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln was relieved duty in the Gulf by the USS Nimitz and was heading home, the US Navy said Wednesday.
The USS Lincoln and its seven-ship battle group were reportedlyto have been at sea nearly nine months, longer than any US carrierbattle group now on duty. The duty of a US carrier usually lasts six months.
