Finance officials from the Group 7 countries agreed Saturday to support a new UN Security Council resolution for the reconstruction work in Iraq.
As the war in Iraq is drawing to an end, the global efforts forthe reconstruction in Iraq have been a hot issue of wide concern. On Saturday shortly before reports about the agreement of a UN resolution coming out, European officials including President of European Central Bank Willem Duisenberg and President of the Eurozone Nikos Christodoulakis specified to the press that such a resolution would be welcome.
The report also said that the finance leaders, in a joint statement, endorsed a resolution as part of a reconstruction plan that will involve the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
The World Bank and the IMF, at earlier meetings in the series of their spring meetings held this week, clarified that they are ready to help rebuild Iraq.
