Three Turkish journalists were injured Saturday when their cars were attacked near the northern Iraqi city of Irbil, local TV reports said.

Kemal Batur, a journalist for the Sky Turk television, was shot on the hand, while Mesut Gengec, a cameraman for Show TV, suffered wounds in the head by shrapnel. Their injuries were considered not life-threatening.

They were part of a group of six Turkish journalists traveling in two cars to a hospital in Mosul to interview patients there, thereports said.

They were being treated in a hospital in Irbil, but Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the government was trying to bring the two back home for treatment.

Erdogan said it was unclear who was responsible for the attack. Some reports suggested that Iraqi militias loyal to Saddam Hussein opened fire at the convoy, while others said they may have been attacked by people protecting the hospital from looting.
