First Possible SARS Case Found in Indonesia: Minister
Indonesian Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ahmad Sujudi said here Friday that Indonesia has recorded its first possible case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

"A 47-year-old British of Chinese descent, who has been treated at Suroso Hospital in Jakarta since Wednesday, is categorized as possible case," said Sjafei Ahmad, Secretary General of PreventingInfecting Disease of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, ina press conference here.
Based on the standard of the WHO, SARS cases are categorized from the phases of developments as potential, being isolated and treated, suspected, possible suspect, and confirmed.
Ahmad said that the British citizen, who had visited Hong Kong and Singapore before arriving in Indonesia, has been hospitalized in Jakarta since April 9.
He also said that another woman, who is categorized as a suspect of SARS infection, has been treated in Banyumas Hospital, in Central Java province.
Ahmad said the 27-years-old woman worker has just returned fromTaiwan.
The Indonesian government has reported the two cases to the WHO,the minister said.
However, Ahmad also said that the two patients were in better health conditions now and they could be totally cured.
According to the official, up to present, 29 people are of possible SARS infections in Indonesia.
In regarding to the latest developments of the SARS in the country, the minister of health said that President Megawati has asked the health authority to strengthen its efforts in preventingthe possibly spreading of the disease.
Sujudi asserted that President Megawati has also asked his ministry to tighten surveillance to those arriving here from possibly spreading areas.
