Beijing is building its first diesel oil production plant with oil extracted from sewage as the raw material, the Beijing Star Daily reported Friday.
Waste oil, retrieved from local hotels, restaurants and even sewage, will be regenerated into a kind of reclaimed oil through biological treatment.
Compared with ordinary diesel oil, such oil contains no sulfur dioxide and much fewer hydrocarbons and less carbon monoxide.
Beijing turns out 50,000 tons of waste oil annually, which was previously shipped to chemical works in other cities.
The new type of diesel oil is likely to help reduce air pollution in Beijing, the paper said.
