'Solidarity, Friendship and Mutual Respect Mean to Score Final Victory'

"Solidarity, friendship and mutual respect mean to score final victory". This is a sonorous slogan put forward by some 50 angels in white cloak working assiduously at the forefront of Beijing You'an Hospital when taking over the task for the treatment of imported atypical pneumonia patients in question. People are aspired and greatly moved on hearing it. Because it has embodied the lofty virtue of the Chinese medical workers, an expression of the determination and confidence of the Chinese government and its people in the staunch fighting against the disease detrimental to the health of the people.

Since the first case of atypical pneumonia was found out in Guangdong Province, medical workers in Guangdong and all other places in China, abiding by the norm of healing the wounded and rescuing the dying, have been fighting staunchly against the disease with a selfless and hard-working spirit. It is because of their efforts that have made most of the sufferers being effectively cured. Dr. R.F. Breiman, Head of the WHO Expert Team having just finished inspection on the atypical pneumonia in China expressed his deep respect to the Chinese colleagues by saying "I think the doctors in Guangdong have done a lot of outstanding job. They've succeeded in preventing the spread of the disease." "People here are doing the round-clock work and I see in person the morbidity is on a constant decrease��"

The Chinese government has made detailed publicity as to the epidemic situation and adopted measures on time for its control in accordance with the conditions and the laws of China. This has also left a deep impression on the WHO expert team. Starting from Apr.3, the expert team had an energetic inspection work of 3 days on the prevention and treatment of the atypical pneumonia in Guangdong Province. And afterwards, they've "got a deep impression of the work done here", also holding that they've got more data than expected from the locality about the treatment of atypical pneumonia". Though the experts stayed short in Guangzhou they've been always on the move and finished in inspecting a very large area. In the inspection period, all experts haven't put on any gauze-mask except when entering and talking with the patients in the ward for serious cases.

The work of the Chinese medical workers has received the respect from the Chinese people and the measures taken by the Chinese government have been winning the support and confidence from more and more people. And the objective, rational and enterprising spirit of the expert team in work from the WHO also deserves our respect. Facing with a common enemy harmful to human beings, the Chinese government and the world organizations concerned and medical workers domestic and foreign are working closely together with a highly scientific attitude and a responsible spirit for the lives of the people to fight against the disease to the finish.

Nevertheless, one or two media in the world are fond of spreading irresponsible news while disregarding the actual fact about the true epidemic situation. They turned a blind eye to what the Chinese government and medical workers have achieved and the effects gained in the control of the disease but rather dwelled on writing "political" articles. Irrespective of the common knowledge in science they even jumbled the originating and reporting places of the disease. Beyond doubt, all fallacies will find no foothold at all. Just as the example cited by Zhang Wenkang, Minister of the Ministry of Health in elucidating the so-called "China is the place of origin for the disease", he said, "the AIDS was first reported in the United States. You can't say that the US is the originating place of the AIDS." The groundless "deliberate doings" by some media will soon and naturally be turned into plumes of smoke in face of the fact.

Diseases harmful to the health of the people are the common enemy of mankind. The efforts made by China in studying and overcoming atypical pneumonia are a contribution to the health of human beings. The Chinese efforts "can serve as a lesson to learn by other countries and be good for them" as Dr. R. F. Breiman pointed out, believing that the correct way of cooperation and solution is bound to score a success. To realize the objective let us go over once again the slogan by the angels in white cloak of Beijing You'an Hospital, "solidarity, friendship, mutual respect mean to score final victory".
