French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin said on Wednesday that he would visit China on April 23-26 as planned despite the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in some areas of China.
Raffarin told reporters that his upcoming visit to China is of great significance as it is aimed at promoting the political and economic ties between French and China amid a turbulent world situation.
He emphasized that, as two permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, France and China share a deep mutual understanding and hold very similar positions on the issue of Iraq war. Therefore, the two sides should maintain constant dialogue, he added.
Raffarin said the bilateral economic and trade cooperation holds a broad perspective and French businesses are looking forward to working together with their Chinese partners.
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji invited Raffarin to visit China during his visit to France in fall 2002.
