South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun will make a seven-day trip to the United States from May 11 for meeting with US President George W. Bush, according to South Korean President Office on Wednesday.
"The visit will be an important milestone because it will be realized amid celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the South Korea-US alliance," said a statement of the President Office, the Blue House. Roh and Bush are scheduled to make their first summit on May 14 in Washington.
During his first overseas trip since inauguration on Feb. 25, Roh is expected to take advantage of the chance to discuss deeply the nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) with US officials, said the statement.
The DPRK nuclear issue erupt last October when the United States claimed the DPRK had a "secret nuclear program." Then nuclear standoff escalated by DPRK's expelling of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors and announcement of withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in past January.
And, the South Korean president also plans to address business circles in New York, Washington and San Francisco on his country's investment environment and economic reform.
Roh Moo-hyun and Bush previously had three times telephone conversations this year, during which Roh accepted the US visit invitation from Bush.
