HK in Close Communication with WTO: Spokesman

Hong Kong Special AdministrativeRegion (SAR) government spokesman said Tuesday night that the government has been in close communication with the World Health Organization and the health authorities in the Chinese mainland.

Hong Kong Special AdministrativeRegion (SAR) government spokesman said Tuesday night that the government has been in close communication with the World Health Organization and the health authorities in the Chinese mainland.

He made the remarks in response to media inquiries on the amendment to the European Parliament Report on Hong Kong concerning the outbreak of atypical pneumonia.

He said: "we note that the report welcomes the actions of the Hong Kong healthcare professionals and scientists in responding tothe outbreak of the virus."

The spokesman added that with full support of the central government, HK has established a direct communication mechanism with the Guangdong provincial authorities on information exchange relating to atypical pneumonia.

"We will continue to develop close communication with our Guangdong counterparts in a pragmatic manner and in the spirit of mutual respect under the 'One Country, Two Systems' principle," the spokesman added.
