DPRK to Fight to the End with US if at War: Official
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which does not want a war with the United States, will "mercilessly" wipe out the enemy and fight with the US to the end in case of Washington's provocation despite its warning, a senior DPRK official said Tuesday.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which does not want a war with the United States, will "mercilessly" wipe out the enemy and fight with the US to the end in case of Washington's provocation despite its warning, a senior DPRK official said Tuesday.
Kim Yong Chun, chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, made the remarks at a national meeting held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of DPRK leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the DPRK National Defense Commission.
While describing the current situation as very complicated and acute, Kim Yong Chun said that the US-led coalition forces are staging a war on Iraq under the pretext of "combating terrorism," which will gravely destroy global peace and security.
He said the United States has constantly pursued an anti-DPRK hostile policy, warning that the US joint military exercises with South Korea launched recently in the name of so-called "nuclear issue" have driven the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of a war.
If the UN Security Council is abused for the US hostile policy on stifling the DPRK, the United States will take full responsibility for the failure of all efforts for dialogue as well as the extremely tense situation, he said.
The UN Security Council is due to hold discussions on Thursday over the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. The DPRK has made it clear that it would not accept any resolution adopted at the meeting.
The DPRK will have no other option but to beef up the military deterrent force to avert a war and defend the sovereignty and security of the country and its people by mobilizing its potential to the maximum, Kim warned.
