Bombardment Unleashed on Iraq Equal to Nuclear Conflict: Physicians
Condemning the US-led war on neighboring Iraq, Jordanian physicians believed the ongoing war is no less than a nuclear one, the Jordan Times reported Tuesday.
Condemning the US-led war on neighboring Iraq, Jordanian physicians believed the ongoing war is no less than a nuclear one, the Jordan Times reported Tuesday.
"We condemn this immoral war as we believe the amount of bombardment unleashed on Iraq is equal to any nuclear conflict," said Mahmoud Taher, vice president of the Jordanian Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (JPPNW).
JPPNW sent an invitation to its international umbrella organization to convene in Amman, in an effort to "increase pressure ... on all parties to return to the negotiating table," said the Times.
The invitation, sent to an estimated 1,000 affiliates around the world, said that the current conflict "promises to be a laboratory for testing internationally banned weapons."
It is the coalition forces that are using weapons of mass destruction and not the Iraqis, said the letter.
It also raised concerns that the internationally banned depleted uranium munitions will affect Iraq and the Iraqis for years to come.
The umbrella International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War was established in 1976 to create a forum promoting advocacy and world peace, and currently it has an estimated 100,000 members worldwide.
