Chinese soccer fans are sure to be disappointed with the news that they will not have the chance to see Li Tie, China's player of the year in 2002, and his international team-mate Li Weifeng play against each other for their respective clubs next month.

The English Premiership side Everton has cancelled its tour of the mainland and Hong Kong because of the outbreak of SARS in the area.

The Premier League team was scheduled to play May 23 and 25 in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, both of which have been affected by the atypical pneumonia.

Everton is sponsored by the Chinese mobile phone company Kejian.
