Qingdao International Marathon to Kick off in May

The 2003 Qingdao International Marathon will kick off on May 11 in Shangdong province, expecting more than 10,000 participants from Japan, South Korea and hosts China, including disciples of world famous long-distance runner coach Ma Junren.

The 2003 Qingdao International Marathon will kick off on May 11 in Shangdong province, expecting more than 10,000 participants from Japan, South Korea and hosts China, including disciples of world famous long-distance runner coach Ma Junren.

The runners will compete in three categories of men's and women's whole-distance marathon (42.195 kms), half marathon (21.0975 kms) and a 5-km mini marathon, organizers said on Tuesday.

The marathon races are open to runners from both at home and abroad with a deadline of April 25. Runners over 18 years old areeligible for the first two categories, while the mini marathon requires those over 13 years old.

Top 10 finishers in the whole-distance marathon, both men's andwomen's races, will pocket different prize money, with men winner receiving 10,000 US dollars and his women peer getting 6,000 US dollars, organizers said.
