Russian President Vladimir Putin held a brief meeting with US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice on Monday.
During the meeting she handed over to Putin a message from US President George W. Bush in which Bush reiterated the commitments to further develop Russian-US relations, the Kremlin spokesman Alexei Gromov said.
Earlier, Rice met with presidential chief of staff Alexander Voloshin, Security Council secretary Vladimir Rushailo, Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov.
During the meetings the two sides discussed their bilateral ties.
They also discussed non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and international terrorism as well as Iraqi issue.
Russia reaffirmed its position on Iraq and stressed the need tobring the Iraqi crisis back to the UN as soon as possible, Gromov said.
Moscow also expressed serious concern over the Sunday's attack on a Russian diplomatic convoy, which was evacuating Iraq to Syria, and over subsequent obstacles created by the US military to the convoy's further movement.
A senior American diplomat told Itar-Tass after Rice's meetings with Russian leadership that two sides decided to coordinate efforts for Iraqi post-conflict settlement.
According to him, Russia also expressed readiness to further cooperate with the US.
The Sunday's shooting at Russian diplomats will not affect Russian-US ties, the diplomat said, adding that the two sides had cleared the problem out.
The US did not assume responsibility for the incident, as the American troops would have never perpetrated damage to Russian diplomats and had actually assisted their departure from Baghdad, he said.
Rice finished her 24-hour visit to Moscow on Monday afternoon.
Russia has repeatedly expressed strong opposition to the US-led war against Iraq. However, the Kremlin has softened its tough antiwar tone recently.
