Fire Kills 21 in East China's Shandong

Twenty-one employees have been killed in a fire in a food processing workshop of east China's Shandong Province.

Twenty-one employees have been killed in a fire in a food processing workshop of east China's Shandong Province.

The blaze started at approximately 12:50 a.m. Saturday in the Qingdao Chia Tai Co. Ltd. when 500 employees were on night shift. The steel-framed workshop collapsed in the fire, trapping some of the staff, said officials from the Qingdao city, the provincial capital.

The fire was extinguished and all the bodies had been retrievedby 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Qingdao Chia Tia Co. Ltd. has 4,000 employees and is located in the Longquan town of Jimo, a city under Qingdao.

The province and Qingdao city government have sent a team to investigate cause of the accident and deal with the aftermath.
