Bush Calls Russian, Spanish Leaders: White House
US President George W. Bush on Saturday called Russian President Vladimir Putin and Spanish PrimeMinister Jose Maria Aznar to discuss issues including the ongoing war in Iraq, the White House said.
US President George W. Bush on Saturday called Russian President Vladimir Putin and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar to discuss issues including the ongoing war in Iraq, the White House said.
It said in a statement that the calls to Putin and Aznar "are part of an ongoing series of calls between President Bush and world leaders involving a variety of matters, including Iraq."
After the phone calls, Bush held a teleconference with members of his "war council" in Camp David, Maryland, where the US president is spending the weekend.
Only National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, and CIA Director George Tenet accompanied Bush to the presidential retreat.
During the teleconference, Bush was briefed on the latest battlefield developments by the council members, including top military and diplomatic advisers, his aides said.
The US president is leaving Monday for a two-day summit with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Northern Ireland.
