Three Killed, Five Injured in Fireworks Blast in S. China

Three people were killed and five others injured in a fireworks plant explosion in Zhanjiang City of the Guangdong Province, south China, Friday.

Three people were killed and five others injured in a fireworks plant explosion in Zhanjiang City of the Guangdong Province, south China, Friday.

The explosion happened at 11:09 a.m. at a six-room house of theBaoman Firecracker Plant in the city's Xiashan District.

According to the local police, the fireworks plant was jointly-owned by five people. The eight victims were four workers and fourbosses, including a female boss.

A female worker at the plant said that when she came back from fetching her baby, she saw that shattered tiles and windows, a huge hole in front of the house, and a boss and his wife lying injured on the ground.

Local fire fighters attributed the explosion to violations of safety rules.

The five injured have been hospitalized and further investigations are underway.
