At least 65 people were confirmed dead and nearly 90 others remained missing in a ferry disaster at Jaflong in Bangladesh's northeastern Chatak District Friday night.

Police said 65 bodies, including 39 women and children, were picked up so far from the Surma river by the rescuers, but nearly 90 others remained missing, some of them are presumed to have swum to safety.

They said the ferry carrying over 150 people, mostly quarry collectors and their family members, was going to Jaflong, a site of quarry collection and sank after it was hit by a barge coming from the opposite direction.
