The first groups of Chinese tourists to visit South Africa (SA) and India departed Guangzhou city, the capital of Guangdong province, in south China, Tuesday.

Although the military action in Iraq is increasingly fierce, nothing can affect local Guangdong people's enthusiasm about organized tours overseas.

Both trips have been organized by a local travel agency at a cost of 9,999 yuan (about 1,200 US dollars) per person for the SA tour, and 7,980 yuan (approximately 960 US dollars) per person forthe trip to India.

A group of 67 people is to travel to South Africa, and the remaining 20, mostly middle-aged and elderly individuals, will setout for India.

According to official figures so far available, more than 16.6 million Chinese mainland residents traveled overseas last year, up36.84 percent year-on-year. Of that figure, some 3.53 million, or 21.27 percent, were tourists.
