A woman suspected of being infected of atypical pneumonia has been hospitalized and isolated for treatment in the city of Shanghai, east China, according to official sources Wednesday.

The patient traveled to south China on a business trip in late March, and, shortly after her return to Shanghai, she fell ill, showing such symptoms as cough, fever and shortness of breath.

The Shanghai municipal government has given top priority to the disease since it first emerged on the Chinese mainland, and local medical authorities and institutions are well prepared to deal with the issue as well as to ensure social stability and public health, the sources said.

The Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and government assured that they would keep the public well informed of the matter and were also referring the public to the local medical website, "www.smhb.gov.cn" for relevant information.
