The Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR) government does not plan to declare Hong Kong as an infected area, a Hong Kong official said Tuesday.
HKSAR Director of Health Margaret Chan made the remarks during a media session at the HKSAR government headquarters amid the outbreak of atypical pneumonia in the HKSAR and many other parts of the world.
"I would like to take this opportunity, through you, to inform the people of Hong Kong categorically that we have no plan, and there is no need for us, to declare Hong Kong an infected area," she said.
She stressed that the airport and all of Hong Kong's external transport with other parts of the world will continue as usual, and everything is running as scheduled and normally.
"Another point I wish to make is, in terms of food supply and other supply, we have adequate supply to provide for the needs of the citizens of Hong Kong, so there is no need for anybody to havea run on food and other things," Chan added.
