A large tomb with eight coffin chambers and beautiful mural paintings built during the early Eastern Han Dynasty (25 A.D.-220 A.D.) has been discovered by Chinese archaeologists in central China's Henan Province.

Located in the Yintun Village of Yiyang County, the tomb contains passages to a coffin chamber, tomb gates, corridors, a shrine built into a wall and eight coffin chambers.

Archaeologists said that they found only a few remainders of pottery, some ironware, some stoneware and some items related to burial rites in the tomb, given that it had been robbed twice.

Mural paintings were found on the ceilings of the main and back coffin chambers, the content of which depicted images of the sun, the moon, stars, animals, human beings and celestial beings with human faces and snake-like bodies.

The paintings are of high value in the study of ancient art, archaeologists said.

The archaeologists also found six iron spikes in the main coffin chamber, an uncommon find in the tombs of Easter Han.
