The General Office of the State Council, China's cabinet, has issued an emergency notice, calling on all localities, departments and work units to carry out a thorough inspection on production safety in production in an effort to reduce industrial accidents.
According to the notice, industrial safety has an important bearing on the security of state property and on the security of the lives and property of the general public. It is closely related to the country's reform and opening-up, economic development and social stability, and most importantly, the image of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and of the government.
The notice calls on leaders at various levels to fully recognize the importance of industrial safety and to adopt a responsible attitude in their work so that potential fatal accidents can be avoided.
The notice lists coal mines, communications and transportation facilities and densely populated venues as priorities for inspection.
Last weekend's coal mine gas explosion in north China's Shanxi Province has claimed 62 lives and left 10 missing.
The notice also urges the inspection of fire control facilities and efforts in densely-populated venues such as department stores, cinemas, singing and dancing halls, cyber cafes, hotels, scenic spots, bus and railway stations, airports and schools before this year's week-long Labor Day holiday period in early May.
All those found responsible for safety accidents will either be dealt with according to the law or will receive disciplinary sanctions, the notice warns.
