Pakistan was not considering expulsion of Iraqi diplomats, Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmud Kasuri said in Islamabad on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.
"This is not under consideration," he told reporters at a function when asked about the US requests to all countries to sever diplomatic ties with Iraq.
Kasuri said that Pakistan had deplored initiation of war on Iraq and sought a solution of the crisis within the framework of the United Nations. He said, "We are opposed to war."
He said Pakistan would use all diplomatic means to bring an end to the suffering of the Iraqi people.
The minister rejected the assertion that an official had described Pakistan being the next target. "No one has said that," he added.
The minister reiterated that Pakistan's nuclear control and command structure was in safe hands and was recognized as such by the international community. "There was no question of Pakistan's nuclear weapons going into wrong hands," he added.
The minister said that there was no way of Pakistan taking part in proliferation, be it nuclear weapons or missiles.
Kasuri said, "We believe that the United Nations must continueto play an important role in the current crisis in Iraq."
Referring to the emerging situation in Iraq, he said, "We needto address urgently the gathering storm of a humanitarian crisis."
