In his weekly radio program, "Premier Thaksin talks with the public", on Saturday, the Thai leader confirmed that cross-visits between Cambodian and Thai people were now resumed to the normal level after all checkpoints along the Cambodian-Thai border were re-opened Friday.
"The Cambodian-Thai border was re-opened Friday after a meeting in Sa Keow province between Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai, and Cambodian Senior Minister Sok An. Cross-visits between people of the two neighbours have been resumed to the normal level since then", he stated.
"On March 17, Cambodia also transfer a cash of 251 million baht(5.97 million US dollars) to the Thai government to compensate fordamages of the Thai Embassy to Cambodia without any condition," hesaid.
The Cambodian government has already lifted its ban on Thai TV broadcast on local TV stations, and has publicized precise information on the riots against Thai interests, creating better understanding between people of the two neighbors, he added.
"I believe that bilateral relations between Cambodia and Thailand are steadily improving", said the prime minister.
The Thai leader urged that owners of the damaged Thai businesses seek for compensations on the compromise basis to allowbusinesses to be resumed.
Relations between the two neighboring countries had soured following arson attacks against the Thai Embassy and other Thai private interests in Phnom Penh by over 1,000 Cambodian hardlinerson Jan. 29.
Thailand later downgraded diplomatic relations with Phnom Penh from the ambassador to the charge d' affaires level, while cross-border visits had also been temporarily suspended.
