Gas Explosion Kills 20 Miners in China's Shanxi

At least twenty miners were killed in a gas explosion in a coal mine in north China's Shanxi Province Saturday, according to sources with the provincial government.

At least twenty miners were killed in a gas explosion in a coal mine in north China's Shanxi Province Saturday, according to sources with the provincial government.

Some 75 miners were working underground in the Mengnanzhuang coal mine in Xiaoyi City Saturday noon when the blast happened. Three people had been rescued, 20 confirmed dead and 52 still trapped in the mine by midnight Saturday.

Leaders of the provincial government have rushed to the scene and the rescue work is underway.

The cause of the blast is yet to be known by press time.
