British Troops Start Ground Offensive Against Iraq

British troops launched a ground offensive in Iraq as the United States started a twin attack on Iraqi targets, The Sky News quoted British military sources as saying on late Thursday.

British troops launched a ground offensive in Iraq as the United States started a twin attack on Iraqi targets, The Sky News quoted British military sources as saying on late Thursday.

Main offensive against Iraq would kick off on Thursday night, the sources said.

Cruise missiles rained down on Baghdad this evening as Americanplanes attacked what is reported to be Iraq's Republican Guard position.

The other battle is raging in southern Iraq where American forces in northern Kuwait are shelling Iraqi positions in the south, the report said.

The report also quoted Britain's domestic Press Association as saying that Royal Marine commandos had "stormed into southern Iraq" on Thursday evening.
