US troops on Thursday evening opened artillery fire on Iraqi soldiers near the border between Iraq and Kuwait, Al Arabia TV reported.
The move indicated that the US military is expected to start ground operations in the on-going war against Iraq.
Earlier, US and British troops were seen moving toward Iraq fromnorthern Kuwait.
It was reported the US troops deployed in Kuwait had received orders to invade Iraq late Thursday.
Currently, there are 180,000 US troops massed in the Gulf emirate.
UK troops launches ground offensive against Iraq
British troops have launched a ground offensive in Iraq as the United States started a twin attack on Iraqi targets, The Sky News quoted British military sources as saying on late Thursday.
Main offensive against Iraq would kick off on Thursday night, the sources said.
Cruise missiles rained down on Baghdad this evening as Americanplanes attacked what is reported to be Iraq's Republican Guard position.
The other battle is raging in southern Iraq where American forces in northern Kuwait are shelling Iraqi positions in the south, the report said.
