Jordanian national airline Royal Jordanian planned to transfer part of its fleet to Athens, Greece, lest a no-fly zone be imposed in the region, the Jordan Times reported Thursday.

Royal Jordanian made the plan in order to ensure safe passage for passengers in the event of a US-led military action on neighboring Iraq, said the report.

The air carrier suspended two flights scheduled to Baghdad for Thursday and Friday and would put on hold other flights to Iraq indefinitely.

The United Sates began its strike on Iraq to disarm Saddam Hussein less than two hours after its ultimatum for the Iraqi president to step down expired at 0100 GMT Thursday.
