South Korean Defense Minister Cho Young-kil said Thursday the ministry would consider sending medical units to the Gulf to help the U.S.-led military campaign against Iraq following discussions at the National Security Council and a Cabinet meeting.

"The government should dispatch soldiers to Iraq to secure the South Korea-U.S. alliance...as well as to lay the groundwork for participation in an anti-terrorism international alliance and postwar reconstruction in Iraq," Cho told Park Hee-tae, acting chairman of the opposition Grand National Party.
