After its forces launched attacks on Iraq on Wednesday night, the United States released an advisory, warning its citizens abroad against a potential for retaliations.
"As a result of military action in Iraq, there is a potential for retaliatory actions to be taken against U.S. citizens and interests throughout the world," the US Department of State said.
The advisory said that "public demonstrations carry the potential for precipitating violence directed at American citizens, symbols associated with the United States or other U.S. and western interests."
Hours ago, US President George W. Bush declared the beginning of a war against Iraq and the strikes came about 90 minutes after the expiry of a 48-hour deadline set by Bush on March 17, demanding Saddam and his two sons leave or face war.
