The Turkish government will ask the parliament to vote on allowing the deployment of US troops in Turkey as early as Wednesday, as a US-led war on Iraq seems imminent, a senior Turkish official said late Tuesday.

"We are sending a motion to the parliament," Justice Minister Cemil Cicek told reporters after a cabinet meeting on the Iraqi crisis.

"The first part of the motion is related to the dispatch of Turkish soldiers abroad and the second part is about the deployment of US soldiers in Turkey and transit passage for US aircraft," he said.
