NPC Approves Zhu's Government Work Report

The First Session of the 10th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, adopted Tuesday a resolution, endorsing the Report on the Work of the Government delivered by former Premier Zhu Rongji.

The First Session of the 10th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, adopted Tuesday a resolution, endorsing the Report on the Work of the Government delivered by former Premier Zhu Rongji.

NPC adopts 2003 national development plan
The First Session of the 10th National People's Congress adopted Tuesday a resolution, approving the Plan of National Economic and Social Development for 2003 put forward by the State Council, which had been examined and verified by the Financial and Economic Committee of the NPC Standing Committee.

It also approved the Report on the Implementation of the 2002 Plan for National Economic and Social Development and on the Draft 2003 Plan for National Economic and Social Development, presented by former Minister in charge of the Development Planning Commission Zeng Peiyan.

NPC adopts 2003 budget
The first session of the 10th National People's Congress adopted Tuesday a resolution, accepting the central budget for 2003 that projects 10 billion yuan more deficit than in 2002 and the issue of 140 billion yuan of construction bonds, as part of the proactive fiscal policy and prudent monetary policy aimed at expanding effective domestic demand.

The closing meeting of the session also voted for the Report on the Implementation of the Central and Local Budgets for 2002 and on the Draft Central and Local Budgets for 2003, presented by former Finance Minister Xiang Huaicheng.
