Tanzanian President Pledges to Strengthen Ties with China

Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa said Monday in Dar es Salaam that his country will, as always, strengthen ties with China in all fields.

Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa said Monday in Dar es Salaam that his country will, as always, strengthen ties with China in all fields.

Mkapa made the remarks while meeting Chinese Ambassador Wang Yongqiu, whose term of office is to end this month, at the State House.

Mkapa expressed his satisfaction with political and economic cooperation with China which he describe as a long-standing friend of Tanzania, saying that China's support to Tanzania in its struggle for independence in early 1960s still remain fresh in Tanzanians' heart.

The cooperation between Tanzania and China in the economic and trade field in recent years is quite encouraging, said Mkapa.

Wang, for his part, said the Chinese government attaches great importance to its ties with Tanzania and cherishes the brotherly friendship with the country.

The upcoming visit to Tanzania by a Chinese economic and trade delegation will be sure to further promote economic ties between the two countries, the ambassador said.
