The Russian government has decided to build a key oil pipeline from Western Siberia to the Pacific coast on the Sea of Japan, with a separate branch going to northeastern China, Russian news agencies quoted Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov as saying on Friday.
Russian ministries and departments will carefully study the project and decide by May 1 on the exact route of this combined pipeline from Angarsk to Nakhogka, with a branch to the Chinese city of Daqing, Kasyanov said.
He also noted that the project could be adjusted in accordance with its economic feasibility.
The construction of the pipeline will allow Russia to export asmuch as 80 million tons of oil a year, including 30 million tons to China and 50 million tons to other Asian-Pacific countries, among them Japan and South Korea.
