10th NPC Session Presidium Meets

The presidium of the first session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) met in its fourth session here Friday afternoon, finalizing the list of the candidates for top government posts and the list of candidates for leaderships heading specialized committees of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

The presidium of the first session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) met in its fourth session here Friday afternoon, finalizing the list of the candidates for top government posts and the list of candidates for leaderships heading specialized committees of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

The meeting adopted by voting the final list of candidates proposed at Thursday's third meeting of the presidium and discussed among all deputies, deciding to distribute the list as official candidates to all deputies and put it to voting at the NPC plenary session Saturday.

The official candidates are for the posts of the chairman, vice-chairmen, the secretary-general and members of the 10th NPC Standing Committee, the president and vice-president of the People's Republic of China (PRC), chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).

The meeting also finalized the list of candidates for the chairmen, vice-chairmen and members of eight specialized committees of the NPC Standing Committee, deciding to distribute it among the deputies before being put to voting at the NPC plenary session Saturday.

The eight specialized committees of the NPC Standing Committee are the Committee for Nationalities Affairs; the Law Committee; the Committee for Internal and Judicial Affairs; the Committee for Education, Science, Culture and Health; the Committee for Foreign Affairs; the Committee for Overseas Chinese Affairs; the Committee for the Protection of Environment and Resources; and the Committee for Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs has been founded earlier at the beginning of the on-going NPC session.

The presidium passed a draft list of 36 scrutineers. It also decided to distribute the list to all NPC deputies before being put to voting at Saturday's plenary session.

Also adopted at the meeting were a draft resolution on the work report of the Ninth NPC Standing Committee, a draft resolution on the work report of the SPC, and a draft resolution on the work report of the SPP, as well as a report by the secretariat of the NPC session on the handling of motions tabled by deputies. All the draft revolutions will be submitted to the NPC plenary session for voting.

The meeting was presided over by Presidium Executive Chairman Wu Bangguo.
