Hi-tech Products Push up Exports via Shanghai

Exports through Shanghai, driven by vigorous sales of hi-tech products, increased by 25 percent in the first two months, totaling 13.8 billion US dollars, customs said Friday.

Exports through Shanghai, driven by vigorous sales of hi-tech products, increased by 25 percent in the first two months, totaling 13.8 billion US dollars, customs said Friday.

Most strikingly, exports of automatic data processing equipmentand parts through Shanghai ports nearly doubled during January and February, totaling 784 million US dollars, according to customs statistics.

The city's two laptop computer makers Tech-Front (Shanghai) Computer Co., Ltd and Inventec (Shanghai) Co., Ltd recorded a major increase in exports during the period.

Shanghai's exports to major markets worldwide also registered adouble-digit increase, with Asia up 21.4 percent, Europe up 33.6 percent and North America up 25.3 percent.
