Draft List of Candidates for Senior Chinese Leaders Endorsed

The Presidium of the first session of the 10th National People's Congress held its third session in Beijing Thursday morning, endorsing the draft list of candidates for senior Chinese leaders and deciding to distribute it for discussion by all NPC deputies to the ongoing NPC annual session.

The Presidium of the first session of the 10th National People's Congress held its third session in Beijing Thursday morning, endorsing the draft list of candidates for senior Chinese leaders and deciding to distribute it for discussion by all NPC deputies to the ongoing NPC annual session.

The meeting was chaired by Presidium Chairman Wu Bangguo.

The meeting heard an explanation by Presidium executive chairman Zeng Qinghong on the proposed list of candidates for election and appointment before putting it to a vote.

The list includes candidates for chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, Chinese president and vice-president, chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, president of the Supreme People's Court and Procuratorate General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate as well as chairman, vice- chairmen and members of the specialized committees of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

The meeting also voted for the adoption of two reports presented by Fu Zhihuan and Liu Jibin of the Financial and Economic Committee of the NPC Standing Committee on the examination of the report on the national economic and social plan for 2002 and 2003 and the report on the central and local budgets for 2002 and 2003 delivered to NPC last week.

The presidium decided to put to voting at the NPC plenary session a draft resolution on the government work report, a draft resolution on the report on the implementation of the 2002 national economic and social development and the plan for national economic and social development for 2003 and a draft resolution on the report on the implementation of the 2002 central and local budgets and the proposed central and local budgets for 2003.
