China Takes in 85,000 Foreign Students in 2002

China took in over 85 thousand foreign students in 2002, up 30 percent compared with the previous year. South Korea, Japan, and the United States each has over one thousand students.

The increase in the number of foreign students in China is thought to be due to the rapid growth of the country's economy and the raising of its international status, which has led to increased exchanges with other countries.

Another factor that is thought to have contributed to the influx of foreign students is the improvement in quality of China's higher education institutions.
