A local court in south China recently sanctioned rewards totaling 840,000 yuan (101,000 US dollars) for four people who gave valuable information on the property of debt defaulters.

Their information helped the enforcement of court judgments on three debtors who refused to pay back money as ordered, according to the Intermediate People's Court of Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

In one of the cases, a state-owned company delayed due payment on goods worth 3.4 million yuan (410,000 US dollars), and the court's order of repaying the money was also ignored. A man whose name was not disclosed gave clues about the company's property, which was later confiscated by the court and auctioned off at 2 million yuan (241,000 US dollars).

A small proportion of 15 percent, or 300,000 yuan (36,000 US dollars) was awarded, endorsed by the creditor, to the informant.

It is not rare for debtors to deliberately delay paying back their dues, or in some cases, deny the debt completely, even when financially capable, the court said.

The public agreed to the court's act, saying it was a citizen's deputy to help law enforcement and not to let offenders get off, even the informant does not receive such rewards.

Li Qiu, the chief judge with the court, said people's increased concern over such cases will help protect the interests of creditors.
