Asia's Leading Auto Center Takes Shape in Shanghai
The Shanghai international automobile center, expected to be one of the Asia's largest, is taking shape after 18 months construction work on 66 projects covering 989,300 square meters.
The Shanghai international automobile center, expected to be one of the Asia's largest, is taking shape after 18 months construction work on 66 projects covering 989,300 square meters.
The automobile center, located at Anting town in the Jiading District of Shanghai, is planned to cover 68 square kilometers and will be a multi-functional center for automobile design, production, trade and fairs, as well as racing and tourism.
So far, 4.4 billion yuan (530 million US dollars) has been invested in completed projects covering more than 280,000 square meters.
By the end of the year, the construction of motordrome of the Shanghai international racing center will be finished and the center is expected to open for trials in March 2004.
An automobile quality inspection center will also become operational in September 2004 and meanwhile, a second-hand automobile market will also open for business.
Several car manufacturing projects in the city are expected to be under contract soon.
After five years of development, the modern automobile center will take on a new look and become a major trade and distribution hub in Asia for the industry.
