Non-State companies in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have donated 1.5 million yuan (180,000 US dollars) to build four primary schools in Jiashi and Bachu counties, hit by a strong earthquake on February 24.
The Charity Association of Xinjiang would choose sites and arrange preparatory work for building the schools, said Ma Li, secretary-general of the association.
She added that sums ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 yuan (36,144 to 60,240 US dollars) would be allocated for building each school in the two counties.
An investigation group will also be sent to Jiashi and Bachu in mid-March to select construction companies through public bidding.
Up till March 4, the Xinjiang Charity Association had received cash donations and disaster relief materials worth 6.05 million yuan (729,000 US dollars) from more than 40 local companies, the secretary-general said. All the donations would be used for disaster relief and rebuilding in the affected counties.
