US Rules Out Possibility of Extending Deadline for Iraq
The United States on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of extending a March 17 deadline by one month for Iraq's full disarmament to accommodate strong opposition from some UN Security Council members against a new resolution on Iraq.
The United States on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of extending a March 17 deadline by one month for Iraq's full disarmament to accommodate strong opposition from some UN Security Council members against a new resolution on Iraq.
"A one-month extension of the March 17th deadline has been proposed by some. That's a non-starter in the president's judgment," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters.
But speaking at a news briefing Monday, Fleischer had suggested that the United States be open to further changes in the proposed resolution, including rescheduling the March 17 deadline for Iraq to fully disarm.
"There are consultations under way, and I'm not going to get into every shade of those consultations, because they're fluid," Fleischer said.
