Erdogan Appointed Turkish PM

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday he has been appointed by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer as prime minister to form a new government.

Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday he has been appointed by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer as prime minister to form a new government.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Sezer, Erdogan said he would submit his list of government to the president as soon as possible.

Earlier in the day, President Sezer accepted the resignation of the 58th government which was submitted by the outgoing Prime Minister Abdullah Gul.

According to a statement of the Presidential Press Center, Sezeraccepted Gul's resignation and thanked him and the entire cabinet.

Sezer also asked the cabinet to stay in charge until the new government was set up.
